Irouléguy "ERROTIK" - One of the greatest white wines of the South West!
The Bordaxuria farm is located opposite Saint Jean Pied de Port , on the steep slopes of the Arradoy. It has 7 hectares of vines in production, totally planted in terraces (the topography is arranged in bench). This system made it possible to plant vines on slopes with more than 40% vertical drop .
The terraces lead to a lower density of plantations (between 2,500 and 4,000 vines per hectare) and therefore lower yields (between 25 and 30 hl per hectare). Elorri and Brice produced their first vintage in 2014 .
Brice Robelet and Elorri Reca work hand in hand in the vineyard and in the cellar. The work takes place mainly in the vineyard, because to offer a wine combining typicity and quality, the grapes must be perfect. Since 2012 the vineyard has been run organically (but the process has only been formalized since 2015). There is therefore no longer any use of herbicide or chemical molecule. The treatment base consists of Bordeaux mixture, sulfur and clay, to which are added plant-based preparations: Horsetail, willow bark, valerian, nettle, comfrey ... The work of the soil has been resumed to relieve the vine roots and promote microbiological soil work.
The harvest takes place in October, manually, with close friends of the family. They last between 10 and 15 days. In the cellar, the key word is to adapt to the harvest. For this, Brice and Elori taste conscientiously and regularly to best reveal the potential of the grapes and therefore of the vintage. There is nothing systematic. The wines are rich and need to evolve and balance during aging. To do this, they are placed in contact with breathable materials: concrete vats and 400L oak barrels.
White Irouléguy is made up of 60% gros manseng and 40% petit manseng. The harvest is destemmed and trodden. 90% are pressed directly and 10% remain to macerate for 18 hours in the press before pressing. 70% of the volume carries out alcoholic fermentation and aging in 400L barrels and the remaining 30% in stainless steel vats. Aging lasts 6 months.
