Frédéric Bourgoin is a winegrower in Saint Saturnin in Charente (France). With his family, he develops atypical cognacs on the family estate, both in substance and in form. His philosophy? A natural viticultural approach, a lot of transparency and a hint of innovation.
The family vineyard has been bearing the BOURGOIN name since 1930 and today covers the premier bois, petite champagne and fine bois vintages. A single ambition: to make French (es) rediscover the taste of a real winegrower's cognac.
"I mainly claim the terroir of the first woods, a tiny vintage forgotten from the original 1909 map which benefits from magnificent subsoils from the Upper Cretaceous (Middle Cenomanian). I persist in making“ natural ”cognacs which express themselves at best. the land that saw them be born. "
Nature, that is to say? No blends, no filtration, no colorings and no added sugars. My cognacs are bottled by vintage, by plot and by barrel. Old vintages are offered to their full extent.
Reductions on young eaux-de-vie are always made with distilled rainwater to optimize the aromatic lift. The withdrawals are carried out in quadrature of the moon, by gravity, in order to benefit as much as possible from the mechanics of the fluids and thus avoid any superfluous and violent filtration.
Bottling is done 100% by hand on the estate. "I intend my cognacs for passionate wine merchants, for quality restaurants and for high mixology." Note that the quantities are very limited but the taste will always be there.
Our flagship cuvée? MICROBARRIQUE 1994 35cl at 43% vol. An atypical cognac vintage 1994 whose aging is completed by a finish in micro-barrel of 10 liters with crocodile bousinage (55 seconds touching flame). Tropical aromas on the nose and palate: bourbon vanilla, jammy strawberry, roasted pineapple, overripe mango.
