In 1984, Markus Molitor took over the family vineyard in order to carry on the tradition of the previous eight generations. The vines are spread from Brauneberg to Traben-Trarbach and since 2001 also on the Saar. Thanks to the distribution of these vines over varied schist soils and different microclimates, the “Molitor wines” represent all the varieties of Moselle wine. Despite the increased risk, the harvest is very late. This gives the grapes sufficient time to ripen.
The oldest vines in the vineyard are reserved for this cuvée, some even ungrafted and 100 years old. The soil is made up of several successive layers including the very distinctive blue Devon slate. Markus Molitor currently has the largest plot of this small site (only 20 hectares) known to be one of the best areas in the center of the Moselle region.
