It is an elegant and traditional red wine for aging from one of the oldest wine regions in Tuscany. The word “Lodola” comes from the Italian word “lark”. For centuries these songbirds have migrated to Montepulciano where this wine is made. The word "Nobile" refers to the supreme quality of wine. The Lodola Nuova estate has records dating back to the mid-1200s and has been producing wine since the 15th century.
The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano originates on the hills between the Val d'Orcia and the Val di Chiana. The vineyards are inserted in a marvelous landscape rich in monuments, villas and country houses. The history of this wine originates from a secular oenological tradition, according to which already in the 17th century the wine "Nobile" was considered as the "King of Tuscan wines" (Francesco Redi, Bacco in Toscana). Today, we can see that this drink, appreciated by the nobles and the lords of yesteryear (hence its name), has retained its fame over the centuries. It is especially during these last fifteen years (the DOCG dates from 1980) that the vitivinicultural heritage of Montepulciano knew a positive evolution, thanks, it should be specified, from January 1 of the year, to the financial commitment of producers and the assimilation of a more modern production philosophy. The improvement of the structures of the vines and of the cellar equipment has enabled the qualitative standard of Vino Nobile to be raised, today among the most prestigious red wines in Italy.
