Saint-Emilion Grand Cru

This prestigious vintage takes its name from Roman Antiquity, the Latin poet Ausone (4th century AD), a great wine lover, of which he had become the thurifer, having been born in Gironde where he was the owner of a villa near Saint-Émilion. With a very old vineyard, Château Ausone has known only a very small number of owners since the 13th century: the Lescours family initially (13th-17th centuries), Jacques de Lescure and his descendants (17th century) ), and the Chatonnet-Cantenat family, from which the Dubois-Challon and Vauthier descendants, from the 18th century. As for the reputation of the wine of Château Ausone, it has been firmly established since the end of the 19th century and the Universal Exhibition of 1867, which consecrates the wine production of the commune of Saint-Émilion, of which Château Ausone is already one of the figureheads. Another striking fact: the estate entered directly into the category of Premiers Grands Crus Classés A when the first classification of Saint-Émilion was published in 1955, a distinction that it then shared with the only Château Cheval-Blanc. Since then, the wine of Château Ausone, permanently registered in the circle of very great Bordeaux, has always met the expectations of oenophiles.
