In 1997, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild and Don Alfonso Larraín President of Concha y Toro, signed a partnership agreement to create a great Franco-Chilean wine called Almaviva. The estate includes a mansion, a bodega and a 50-hectare vineyard with three typically Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenère. This great wine is the fruit of the happy encounter between two cultures: Chile offers its soil, its climate and its vineyard; France brings its know-how and traditions in winemaking.
The name Almaviva belongs to the French classical literature: Count Almaviva is the hero of Beaumarchais's famous play (1732-1799), Le Mariage de Figaro, which has become an opera by the genius of Mozart. The label bears the name "Almaviva" from Beaumarchais's own writing and pays tribute to the ancestral history of Chile with three reproductions of a symbolic drawing of the Mapuche civilization.
