DOMAINE DE TREVALLON - Magnum 2017
Domaine de Trévallon is located in Provence, on the edge of the Alpilles mountain range between Avignon and Arles. The first vines were planted in 1973 by founder Eloi Dürrbach, and the estate remains family-owned. The first wines were made in 1976. Nowadays, the vineyard is planted with red varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah (15 hectares), and a small 2 hectares of white varieties: Marsanne and Roussanne.
Winemaking methods are natural and low-interventionist, with no de-stemming, whole-bunch fermentation and natural yeasts, and bottling without filtration. The wines are released as IGP Alpilles, which covers the west of the Bouches-du-Rhône department.
The 2017 Trévallon red is an equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, planted on a clay and limestone soil, very stony. In 2017, the vines withstood a very dry year but thanks to their deep roots, they ensured a quality harvest. The aging lasts 24 months in casks and barrels and the lees which are at the bottom of the barrels nourish the wine throughout the duration of the aging. Slight fining with fresh egg white but no filtration for bottling. This wine has great aging potential.
Grape varieties: 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Syrah
