CHARTREUSE - A Tarragona - Yellow - Bottled in Marseille - 1921/1929 - 50cl - without cap - bottle n ° 2
The Order of the Chartreuse existed for more than 500 years when, in 1605, in a monastery of Chartreuse in Vauvert, a small suburb of Paris, the monks received a gift from Duke François Hannibal d'Estrées: an old manuscript of an "Elixir "Nicknamed" Elixir of Longue Vie ". This manuscript was probably the work of a 16th century alchemist with a great knowledge of herbs and with the skill of assembling, infusing, macerating the 130 of them to form a perfectly balanced tonic. In 1903, the French government nationalized the Chartreuse distillery and the monks were expelled. The Chartreux Fathers took refuge in Spain , where they resumed production of the Chartreuse. This one keeps its original name; the French nickname it "La Tarragona" . This distillery remained in operation until 1989.
This Tarragona was produced between 1921 and 1929 . The liquor was distilled in Tarragona and shipped by boat to be bottled in Marseille, both with the aim of reducing transport costs and customs taxes and to prepare for relocation to France.
The cap of this extremely rare bottle does not have the black wax on the pellet . The cork stopper (tapon corcho) is in perfect condition. The cartridge has a diamond label with the “CAR” logo of the tablet. The label is derived from the 1904 model with the words “Une Tarragona” and “petiteurre” outline. It is also mentioned "Liqueur made by the Chartreux Fathers" on a yellow background animated with crosses.
