Domaine de Beaurenard - Boisrenard 2018
Domaine de Beaurenard is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley. It has been a family estate for 7 generations, today managed by brothers Daniel and Frédéric Coulon. The vineyard covers 32 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 25 hectares in Rasteau and 6 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône. They cultivate the 13 grape varieties authorised for the AOC there, and the average age of the vines is around 45 years. All vineyards are managed in certified organic farming, and also cultivated in certified biodynamics. The grapes, harvested manually at optimum maturity, are taken to the winery in small capacity boxes to prevent crushing of the grains, which would cause oxidation to be detrimental to quality.
Boisrenard comes from a selection of plots, mostly from old vines planted with the 13 grape varieties of the appellation, predominantly Grenache. The grapes are co-fermented with native yeasts, a long vatting is set up for a delicate extraction. The wine is then aged on fine lees for 12 months in a combination of wooden vats, foudres and barrels.
