Château CASTERA 2014
Château Castera is located in Saint-Germain-d'Esteuil, in the north of Saint-Estèphe in the Bordeaux wine region. The château rose to the rank of Cru Bourgeois during the first classification in 1932. After the retirement of Dieter Tondera in 2010, Thomas C. Press, the son of Carl E. Press, took control of the property. The chateau has 63 hectares, the average age of the vines of which is 27 years, the oldest plot having been planted in 1930. In recent years, the chateau team has tended to consider its agriculture. At Château Castera, this translates into grassing in the rows, limiting the use of pesticides, setting aside old plots, plowing under the cavaillon, and treating wine and wine effluents.
Château Castera 2014 is a blend of Merlot (65%), Cabernet Sauvignon (25%), Cabernet Franc (5%) and Petit Verdot (5%). The grapes are rigorously sorted and the vinification is traditional with vatting from 18 to 22 days and daily pumping over. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months, it is bottled at the property then stored in the cellars for 24 months before being marketed.
