Château MONTUS - La Tire 2009
Château Montus is located in Castenau-Rivière-Basse, in the Madiran appellation in the South-West . Alain Brumont bought Château Montus in 1980. He produced his first vintage of Montus in 1982, and the first vintage of Cuvée Prestige in 1985, but at the time, the wines did not correspond to the standards of AOC laws because the vines were too young. Château Montus benefits from a great terroir, unique in the South-West, with a steep slope with large pebbles on fine clays from the Pyrenees. Montus has been nicknamed " the Pétrus of the South-West " by a dozen critics for 30 years.
La Tire is made from Tannat , harvested manually and selected by optical sorting. Maceration lasts 3 to 6 weeks depending on the vintage. The fermentation is traditional with pigeages and the malolactic fermentation is carried out in wooden vats. Aging lasts 14 to 16 months , on lees and in new barrels . 2009 is considered an excellent vintage in Madiran.
Grape variety: 100% Tannat
