Domaine Bott - First Flight - Syrah 2020
Domaine Graeme and Julie Bott is located in Ampuis, in the north of the Rhône . Graeme, originally from New Zealand, and Julie, originally from Lyon, met while working at Stéphane Ogier. Their families do not come from wine-growing backgrounds, nor did they have land they could cultivate and plant vines. To realize their dream of creating their own domain, they had no choice but to start from scratch. To further complicate this challenge, it was impossible to acquire existing vineyards due to price. The only solution was to find plots of land that were not planted and often overgrown with bush. In 2015 they bought their first plot in AOP Condrieu, in the town of Vérin. Pockets empty and without equipment, they cleared the land and reconstructed the stone walls by hand to stabilize the ground so that they could plant the first vines on decomposed granite soils, the original terroir of Viognier. Today, they own vines in Condrieu, Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph and Seyssuel.
First Flight Syrah is made from Syrah on a terroir composed of granite in the communes of Ampuis and Condrieu. The wine is aged for 9 months in French oak barrels .
