Domaine Vincent Girardin - Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots 2020
The Domaine Vincent Girardin is located in Meursault, in the Côte de Beaune in Burgundy . In 1980, at the age of 19, Vincent Girardin, from a wine-growing family in Santenay since the 17th century, wanted to become independent and started with the two hectares of vines inherited from his parents. Very quickly, the quality of its wines was recognized worldwide and enabled it to expand its activity by focusing mainly on the great whites and reds of the Côte de Beaune (Meursault, Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet, Saint Aubin, Santenay , Savigny Les Beaune, Aloxe Corton, Volnay and Pommard). In 2012, Vincent Girardin sold his business to a historical partner of the House: Mr. Nié , President of the Compagnie des Vins d'Autrefois in Beaune.
The Volnay Premier Cru Les Santenots comes from Pinot Noir vines around 85 years old, located in the Meursault appellation area but classified as “Volnay Santenots” for red wines. After light crushing and destemming, the grapes are placed in stainless steel vats. A cold maceration lasts a few days before fermentation, during which punching down and pumping over are carried out. Aging lasts 15 months in barrels, 30% of which are new . One month before bottling, the wine from the different barrels is assembled in vats. Bottling is done according to the lunar calendar.
