Nicolas Joly - Clos de la Bergerie 2020
Domaine Nicolas Joly is located in the appellation of Savennières , in the Loire Valley. Nicolas Joly began his career in Finance in the United States and the United Kingdom before returning in 1977 to his home village of Savennières to take care of his parents' vineyard and in 1980 he converted the vineyards to biodynamics and obtained certification in 1985 . Today, the vineyard is managed by Virginie , Nicolas' daughter, and produces grapes from the 7 hectares of Clos de la Coulée de Serrant monopoly , the Domaine's flagship wine. However, following setbacks with the Interloire organization (the organization promoting the Loire), the Coulée de Serrant may no longer appear on the official appellation maps of the Loire Valley.
Clos de la Bergerie comes from Chenin Blanc grapes, harvested in 3 to 5 sortings to obtain optimal maturity, and linked to low yields (about 30 hL/ha). The vinifications are carried out in oak barrels, with never more than 5% new wood.
Grape variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
