Domaine Weinbach - Gewürztraminer - Altenburg 2021
Domaine Weinbach is located in Kaysersberg, in Alsace . The estate was acquired in 1898 by the Faller brothers who passed it on to their son and nephew Théo Faller. From 1979, his wife Colette and his daughters Catherine and Laurence joined him. Since 2016, Catherine Faller has managed the property with her sons Eddy and Théo. The work of the soil, the vines and the winemaking is adapted to each grape variety-terroir-microclimate combination individually in order to reflect the identity of each place. Since 2005, the 38 hectare vineyard has been managed using certified biodynamics .
The grapes are harvested at optimal maturity, with rigorous selections. The juices are extracted by gentle and progressive pressing. The vinifications are carried out with a minimum of intervention and the long fermentations are carried out in old oak barrels, exclusively with native yeasts.
The place called Altenburg is located between 220 and 300 meters above sea level, on a gentle slope, just below the boundary of the Grand Cru Furstentum. Its soils are marl-limestone-sandstone, comparable to those of Furstentum, with a greater proportion of sand and slightly earlier maturation.
Grape variety: 100% Gewürztraminer
