The Seuil de Mazeyres 2019
Château Mazeyres is located in the Pomerol appellation, in the Bordeaux wine region. It was acquired at the beginning of the 20th century by the Querre family, who produced a fine, fruity wine designed for French restaurant customers. In 1988, the family decided to sell the entire estate to the Société Générale Retirement Fund, which then sold it to Sogecap (life insurance branch of the same banking establishment) in 2010. In 1992, the wine engineer and oenologist Alain Moueix takes over the management of Château Mazeyres. Fourth generation of a renowned family of Libourne winegrowers and merchants, he offers the château his commitment, his knowledge and his know-how. The surface area of the vineyard was considerably increased and consideration was given to approaches to viticulture, winemaking and breeding, leading to a modernization of the facilities. The acquisition of four additional hectares in the heart of the Pomerol appellation in 2010 brings the total surface area of the estate to 25.5 hectares, cultivated biodynamically since 2012 and certified since 2018.
Seuil de Mazeyres is the second wine of the Château. The 2019 is a blend of Merlot (80%) and Cabernet Franc (20%) harvested by hand in crates. The grapes are carefully sorted upon arrival at the cellar. Fermentation is carried out in concrete or stainless steel vats depending on the terroir, the age of the vine and the grape variety. The wine is aged in barrels (50%), in 7 hectoliter concrete eggs (20%), in amphorae and small vats (20%) and in tuns (10%) .
