The Royal Brackla Distillery is located near Nairn in the Highlands of Scotland . It was built in 1812 by Captain William Fraser of Brackla House on the grounds of Cawdor Castle. In 1833, Brackla Distillery became the first distillery in whisky to obtain a Royal Warrant from King William IV. Over the decades, the distillery has changed hands several times and gone through various phases of closure. Since 1998, the distillery has been operated by John Dewar & Sons.
Royal Brackla 12 Year Old was matured in Oloroso sherry casks .
