Domaine DUJAC - Morey Saint Denis 1er Cru - Les Monts Luisants 2022
Domaine Dujac is based in the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation in Burgundy . The estate was founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses , who had spent the previous years traveling around Burgundy learning the trade from large estates. He purchased a small, dilapidated 5-hectare property in Morey-Saint-Denis, Domaine Graillet, and planted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay there. Dujac changed the name of the estate and expanded it by acquiring plots at Clos de la Roche , Clos St Denis , and north of Bonnes-Mares . The estate also expanded in 2005, taking control of the Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Chambertin plots. Over the years, the 15.5-hectare estate has expanded beyond the historic Morey-Saint-Denis location and produces wines in both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune after taking over tenanted vines in Puligny-Montrachet (1er crus Folatières and Combettes) in 2014. In 1998, Jérémy Seysses joined his father at the estate, followed by his wife Diana in 2001 and his brother Alec in 2003. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2011. Maison Dujac Fils & Père is the trading company created by Jérémy and Jacques Seysses in 2005 with the aim of creating more accessible wines with an emphasis on fruit. These wines meet the same quality requirements as those of the Estate, and are vinified by them.
Since the 1960s, Dujac has made some small changes to his winemaking style. Less new oak is used for younger wines, and the cellar is now climate-controlled to allow for later malolactic fermentation. Traditionally, whole-cluster pressing was used, but now the grapes undergo a small amount of destemming if ripeness levels are not high enough.
The Premier Cru Les Monts Luisants is located northeast of the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, at the top of the slope, in a very steep area. The altitude of the plot varies from 311 to 343 meters. The place-name faces east. The Chardonnay of this cuvée comes from an area of 60 ares.
