Bruichladdich Distillery is located on the island of Islay , Scotland . It produces Single Malt whiskies under three labels: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Octomore . The distillery also makes The Botanist Gin. The distillery was built in 1881 by the Harvey brothers. After family disputes, William Harvey ran the business until a fire in 1934 and his death in 1936. Over the next few decades, it changed hands several times and was finally closed in 1994. In 2000, Bruichladdich was bought by a group of investors led by Mark Reynier of Murray McDavid (also known today for his Waterford whiskeys in Ireland). The entire distillery was dismantled and rebuilt, although it retains its Victorian equipment, it is gravity fed and has no computer controlled processes. In 2012, the company was acquired by Rémy Cointreau . The Bruichladdich distillery places great importance on the origin of the barley in its production and marketing.
The Bruichladdich range is unpeated, the heavily peated expressions are released under the name Port Charlotte and the Octomore series is a limited edition series with the highest peat levels of any Single Malt.
Octomore 15.2 was distilled in 2018 from the 2017 harvest of Concerto Scottish barley grown in Scotland. The whisky is aged for 5 years ; initially in a combination of wine and second-fill Bourbon casks , then transferred to Cognac casks. first filling in 2023 for the remainder of its maturation.
