BENRIACH - Smoke Season - 52.8%
BenRiach Distillery is a single malt distillery in the Speyside region of Scotland . Like many distilleries, BenRiach has a complex and difficult history. It was built in 1898 on the same site as the Longmorn Distillery, drawing water from underground source of the Burnside under the property, but was only operational for two years before the crash of the whisky industry. The distillery remained closed until 1965, although the maltings remained in operation to supply Longmorn which distilled continuously throughout this period. BenRiach was reopened by Glenlivet Distillers, and after a major renovation, production of peated malt began in 1972, for use in a blend. The first whisky under the BenRiach brand was released in 1994. After ownership passed to Seagram and then Pernod Ricard, the distillery was mothballed in 2002, before being reopened in 2004 by an independent consortium. Brown-Forman acquired BenRiach along with its partner brands Glendronach and Glengassaugh in 2016. They inherited an impressive inventory of casks dating back to 1965. BenRiach produces both peated and unpeated styles.
Smoke Season is a limited edition that takes up one of Benriach's traditional production techniques. Intensely smoky, this edition has been aged in virgin American oak and Bourbon barrels.
