Pio Cesare - Gavi 2023
The Pio Cesare Estate is located in Piedmont , Italy . Established in 1881 by Cesare Pio, it is one of the oldest in the region and one of the first to export its Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate is still run by Cesare Pio's descendants today, the Boffa family . The winery is located in the center of the town of Alba and built on the ancient Roman walls of the town. The vineyard covers 70 hectares: 31.78 hectares in Barolo, 26.90 hectares in Barbaresco and 10.35 hectares between these two regions.
Gavi is made from the Cortese grape variety sourced exclusively from hillside-facing vineyards in a few select locations in the Gavi region, and from families who have been growing grapes under the strict control of the Pio Cesare family for generations. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures. The wine is aged on its lees .
