Nicolas Joly - Les Vieux Clos 2018
The Domaine Nicolas Joly is located in the appellation of Savennières, in the Loire Valley. Nicolas Joly began his career in Finance in the United States and the United Kingdom before returning in 1977 to his village of origin in Savennières to take care of his parents' vineyard and in 1980, he converted vineyards to biodynamics and obtained certification in 1985. Today, the vineyard is managed by Virginie, Nicolas' daughter, and she cultivate the 7-hectare of Clos de la Coulée de Serrant Monopole, the flagship wine of the Estate. However, following setbacks with the Interloire organisation (the Loire promotion organisation), the Coulée de Serrant may no longer appear on the official Loire Valley appellation maps.
Le Vieux Clos is the second wine from Domaine Nicolas Joly. It is a Chenin Blanc from vines of around twenty years-old and from “massale selection” (visual selection of the most robust vineplants). The wine is aged in oak barrels for 6 to 8 months.
Grape variety: 100% Chenin Blanc
