EL DORADO - 8 ans - 40%
El Dorado is produced by Demerara Distillers Limited at the Diamond Distillery, Guyana. The history of rum in Guyana began in the 1640s with the introduction of sugar cane by early European settlers. In 1670, the production of Demerara rum was established with the distillation establishments in the new territories acquired by the British. By 1780 there were over 300 distilleries producing their own unique rums, each with its own brand identifying its origin (SWR, ICBU, PM, EHP, LBI, AN). By the 1800s, colonial rums using British blends became more popular and the first Old Vatted Demerara (OVD) was made with rum produced by the Port Mourant distillery as the main component. In the 1900s, an unexpected drop in the price of sugar and the introduction of taxes led to a severe consolidation of the sugar industry, as it was not economical for all fields to remain in operation. In 1942, there were nine distilleries left. The El Dorado range now includes a unique collection of aged rums, and the distillery continues to exploit the original production stills used on three of the major sugar estates of the 18th and 19th centuries. Aging at room temperature in tropical climatic conditions contributes to the smoothness of the final rum.
El Dorado 8 Years is aged in oak barrels for at least eight years, producing a blend of sweetness and character. It can be used for crafting cocktails.
