BALBLAIR - 1978 - Unchill-filtered - 46%
The Balblair Distillery is located in Edderton, Ross-shire, Scotland. It was founded in 1790 by John Ross, who successfully ran Balblair and was joined by his son Andrew in 1824. The distillery remained in the Ross family until 1894 when it was taken over by Alexander Cowan. The distillery was rebuilt in 1895 by designer Charles C. Doig to be closer to Edderton station on the Inverness/Ross-shire railway line. However, the original water source was so good that the reconstructed distillery chose to ignore the nearby stream in favour of the original one, the Ault Dearg. To this day, the Balblair Distillery continues to use this water source. In 1948, the property was bought by Robert Cumming, who quickly expanded the distillery and increased production. He managed it until his retirement in 1970, then sold it to Hiram Walker. In 1996, the Balblair Distillery was taken over by Inver House Distillers Limited. The Balblair brand was known to market its whiskies by vintage, but since April 2019 the range now consists of whiskies with age indication.
