AMRUT - Peated Port Pipe - French Connections Single Cask - Edition 2021 - 60%
Amrut Distillery is located in Kambipura, India. The company was founded in 1947 by Shri J.N. Radhakrishna, just before India's independence. Initially, the activity focused on supplying alcohol to the Indian military. Today the company is headquartered in Bangalore and bottles its products in five other states. The Single Malt range was launched in 2004 and in 2010 Amrut Fusion received the award for “Third Best Whisky in the World” in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible. The whiskies are made from barley grown in the Himalayan mountains. Amrut's master blender estimates that one year of aging in hot and humid Indian cellars is equivalent to about three years in Scotland. Around 12% of spirits are lost each year through evaporation (the Angel’s Share) compared to around 2% in Scotland. Single Malt only represents a small part of the total production: dark rum, brandy, vodka, gin and blended whiskies are also produced.
This limited edition of 516 bottles is part of the French Connections range from La Maison du Whisky. The whisky comes from a Single Cask (# 2713) filled in July 2014. After aging in peated Port pipe, the whisky was bottled in August 2020.
