RHUM LONGUETEAU - GENESIS VIEUX - Brut de colonne - Batch n°1 - Millésime 2016 - 71,7%
The Longueteau family arrived in Guadeloupe in 1766, but it was not until the end of the 19th century that Louis-Philippe Henry Longueteau acquired part of the Marquisate of Sainte-Marie, put up for auction following the crisis of the sugar industry. In 1895, he bought the Habitation Espérance to change the domain from sugar refinery to distillery. Today, François Longueteau manages the House, the only distillery in Guadeloupe whose owner is both the farmer and the master distiller.
His rums come entirely from his own sugar canes. They are harvested and crushed the same day at full maturity. Following a 48-hour fermentation without inputs, the juices are distilled in a Savalle column with 28 trays.
This 2016 vintage comes from the crushing and fermentation of the estate's red cane (R579). Distilled at 71.7%, it stayed for 24 months in French oak barrels, before being bottled to its natural strength (Brut de Colonne and Brut de Fût).
