WATERFORD - Micro Cuvée - Voyages Extraordinaires - 50%
Waterford Distillery is located in the town of Waterford, in Ireland. The project was initiated by Mark Reynier, the man behind the renaissance of Islay’s Bruichladdich Single Malt Whisky, inspired by the world’s greatest winemakers. The distillery is a facility originally built by Diageo in 2004 and converted to distilling in 2015. Producing terroir-laden whiskies, the provenance of the barley, where and how it is cultivated, is key. He has sourced 86 Irish farms, including organic and biodynamically-run, growing barley on 19 distinct soils. With a pioneering digital logistical system, each farmer’s crop is harvested, stored, malted and distilled separately.
Voyages Extraordinaires is made from 4 types of barley (Overture, Irina, Taberna and Propino) grown by 18 farmers at different locations. The maturation lasted 3 years, 5 months and 27 days. The whisky barrels are assembled on the 19thof May 2021 before being bottled in August 2021 (45% premium French oak from Château Margaux, 29% first-fill American oak, 13% Vin Doux Naturel and 13% Virgin American oak). 1,000 bottles were produced.
