Quinta do Portal is located in the Douro region of Portugal . The estate is dedicated to the production of Douro wines, Port wines, Moscatel and olive oil. The family-owned and independent business was created in the early 1990s on Quinta dos Muros, a century-old property of the Mansilha family , where Port wine has been produced there for 4 generations. The vineyards of Quinta do Portal are conducted according to the principles of sustainable agriculture , in order to guarantee the protection of the environment. In May 2022, photovoltaic panels were installed with the aim of producing 50% of the Quinta's electricity needs. During the harvest, the CO2 produced is reused during fermentation to inert the lagares and the vats.

Fermentation is stopped by adding grape alcohol to create a wine containing 80 to 120 g/L of residual sugar. The wine is aged for approximately 3 years in neutral barrels .
