Château GRAND-PUY-LACOSTE 1995
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste is located in Pauillac , in the Bordeaux region. It was classified Fifth Grand Cru Classé in the classification of 1855. The Borie family has owned the château since 1978. From its acquisition, François-Xavier Borie carried out a very in-depth renovation of the château and the cellars. Significant investments were immediately implemented, such as the creation of a new vat room, from 1979, with thermo-regulated vats and the upgrading of the vineyard, with plantations where necessary, the improvement drainage, new methods of trellising. The Grand-Puy-Lacoste estate covers 90 hectares, 58 of which are planted with vines. Grand-Puy-Lacoste practices sustainable farming : in twenty years, treatments have been reduced by half and no insecticide has been used for the past ten years.
Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 1995 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (75%), Merlot (22%) and Cabernet Franc (3%) . After the manual harvest, the grapes were sorted on a vibrating table before and after destemming. The vatting lasted about 3 weeks, then the wine was aged for 16 to 18 months in fine-grained French oak barrels , 55% of which were new wood. For Bordeaux, the 1995 vintage is widely recognized as an excellent year . Winter and spring were mild, although the rain in the spring was crucial in rebalancing the water table, and flowering was uninterrupted. The summer was so hot and dry that it broke records. The harvest, which took place in dry and sunny conditions, was abundant and healthy.
