Cihuatan - Cinabrio - 12 years - 40%
Cihuatan is a brand of rum originating from El Salvador in Central America . It was founded in 2004 by a group of Salvadoran entrepreneurs passionate about rum and their country. The Cihuatan brand name is inspired by an ancient Mayan city located in western El Salvador. This city was an important religious and cultural center for the Maya of the region. Cihuatan produces several varieties of rum, made from molasses and spring water from the Chalatenango region. The rums are distilled in copper stills and aged in American oak barrels that have previously contained Bourbon. The brand is also committed to sustainable development projects for the preservation of the environment and the local community.
The name " Cinabrio " was inspired by the color red, which was made by the ancient Maya using the mineral Cinabrio (cinnabar). Red was the symbol of Kinich Ahau, the Mayan sun god. Cinabrio was aged 12 years in ex-Bourbon American oak barrels.
