TAYLOR'S - Porto - Vintage 2003
The Maison de Porto Taylor’s is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south bank of the Douro River, opposite the city of Porto, Portugal . It was founded by Job Bearsley in 1692 and is one of the oldest founding houses in Port. The company today is run by the Yeatman family , who have been involved in the business for over 200 years. The wines are produced from grapes mainly sourced from vineyards located in the Douro Valley, where the climate and soil are ideal for the production of Port wines. Taylor's is also involved in the production of still wines in the Douro region and also has vineyards in other wine regions of Portugal, including the Alentejo region.
Maison Taylor's Vintage Port is only produced in exceptional years. It is a blend of the finest wines from the three estates of the House, Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and more recently, Quinta do Junco. The 2003 vintage began with a wet winter. Flowering then takes place under glorious skies, with the late May weather providing ideal conditions, among the best seen in years. Two weeks follow at the beginning of August, bringing the intense summer heat that most often marks an exceptional Vintage Port. The harvest launched in September took place in hot, dry weather, giving balanced yields between the different grape varieties, a guarantee of harmony and complexity in the wine.
