Carpano - Antica Formula - 16.5%
Carpano is a brand of vermouth created by Antonio Benedetto Carpano in Turin, Italy . In 1786, he invented modern vermouth, made from white wine added to an infusion of herbs and spices, of more than 30 varieties. It was sweetened with alcohol, which he believed would be a more female-friendly drink than local red wines. The Carpano brand is now produced and distributed by Fratelli Branca Distillerie in Milan.
Antica Formula is made from white wines from selected Italian grape varieties from the regions of Romagna, Puglia and Sicily, processed within 24 hours of receipt to avoid oxidation. These wines have a medium alcoholic strength which, in combination with special production processes, brings out the flavors of the spices, herbs and roots that make up the secret recipe. The many aromatic plants that go into the Antica Formula recipe are extracted by hot infusion or cold extraction methods passed down through the centuries, depending on the raw material. Once the different plants and herbs have been assembled, they undergo a refining stage that can last several months.
