Kornog - Cuvée Sant Erwan - Edition 2023 - 50%
Celtic Whiskey Distillerie is located in Pleubian, in the Côtes d'Armor department in Brittany . It was founded in 1997 by Martine and Jean Donnay and is considered a pioneer of French whiskey. The distillery brings together a certain number of specificities which guarantee the production of whiskeys in the purest artisanal tradition: heating with an open flame, slow distillation, the presence of traditional equipment such as two small iron stills as well as wooden fermenters. . Also, aging whiskey by the sea promotes early balance and complexity. In 2020, Maison Villevert (a recognized player in the world of exceptional French spirits, based in the Cognac region) announced that it had acquired Celtic Whiskey Distillerie.
The first Single Malt produced by Celtic Whiskey Distillerie is called Glann ar Mor , Breton translation of “Bord de Mer”. Kornog , the distillery's second Single Malt, is distinguished by its strongly peated character reminiscent of Scottish whiskeys from the island of Islay. Gwalarn is the blend produced by the distillery.
Kornog means “the west wind” in Breton. This Sant Erwan 2023 limited edition pays tribute to Sant Erwan, priest of Trégor, celebrated on May 19. This is the Single Malt distilled from peated malted barley, aged in Bourbon barrels under the influence of the sea in humid cellars swept by the winds and reduced to 50% with spring water from the distillery. .
