Vietti - Moscato d'Asti 2023
Vietti is a Piedmont wine producer in northwestern Italy , located in the heart of the Langhe hills, atop the village of Castiglione Falletto . The estate created by Carlo Vietti has existed since the late 1800s but its reputation grew in the 1960s when Luciana Vietti married winemaker and art connoisseur Alfredo Currado . His intuitions on the production of one of the first Barolo vintages (Rocche di Castiglione in 1961), through the single-varietal vinification of Arneis (1967) to the invention of artist labels (1974) made him both the symbol and architect of some of the most important revolutions of the era. Management of the vineyard was taken over by Luca Currado Vietti and his wife Elena , before being acquired in 2016 by Krause Holdings , allowing Luca and Elena, still at the helm of the Vietti brand, to add a number of wines prized in the estate's heritage. Vietti is particularly known for its range of Barolo single-plot wines, its Barberas, and also its association with the Arneis variety.
Moscato d'Asti is made from Moscato from small vineyards in Castiglione Tinella. The grapes are harvested manually at the end of August/beginning of September. Vinification begins with gentle pressing and cold stabilization. The must is kept in stainless steel tanks at low temperature to prevent fermentation from occurring. As the year progresses, portions of the must are autoclaved at between 12 and 14 degrees to start fermentation. When the alcohol level reaches 5.5%, the temperature is increased to stop the alcoholic fermentation and preserve residual sugar .
Grape variety: 100% Moscato
