Domaine Thibault Liger Belair - Windmill - La Roche 2019
The Thibault Liger-Belair estate is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy . Its history is linked to the Establishments C. Marey and Comte Liger-Belair, created in 1720 in Nuits-Saint-Georges, which were among the most important wine breeding and trading houses in Burgundy. In 1982, Xavier Liger-Belair sold the trading company and died shortly after. That same year, his son Vincent, supported by his mother, took over the family buildings, restructured the estate and reorganized sharecropping with three winegrowers from the coast so that one of his sons could take over the estate when the day came. All of the estate's vines have been in the family since the 18th century and Thibault Liger-Belair took over the exploitation of the vines given as sharecropping in 2001. His 8 hectare vineyard is managed using certified organic farming . In 2003, he created the company Thibault Liger-Belair Successeurs , a grape purchasing business. Between June and July, he himself harvests the grapes from partner winegrowers then vinifies and matures these wines. In 2008, he bought plots in Moulin-à-Vent , a Cru du Beaujolais , at Domaine des Pierres Roses.
The Moulin-à-Vent “La Roche” comes from several plots representing 2.25 hectares. The vines were planted between 1920 and 1945. After the manual harvest, 40% of the harvest is kept in whole clusters. Fermentation lasts 3 weeks in open vats with very gentle extraction. The wine is aged for 15 months in 1 to 3 wine barrels .
