Craigellachie Distillery is located in the village of Craigellachie, Speyside , Scotland . It was built in 1891 by the Craigellachie Distillery Co. Limited, a group of blenders and merchants headed by Alexander Edward. Over the next few years, ownership passed from Peter Mackie (in 1916), to the Distillery Company Limited (in 1927) and to SMD (in 1930). In 1964, the number of stills was doubled. Since 1998, John Dewar & Sons Ltd has operated the distillery and also controls Royal Brackla, Aberfeldy, Aultmore and Macduff.
Craigellachie 13 Year Old is initially matured in a combination of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks. Half of the Single Malt is then matured in first fill Sherry casks , and the remainder in first fill Bourbon casks .
