The Depaz distillery was born in the heart of La Montagne, located in Saint-Pierre not far from the Pelee Mountain, founded in 1651, under the will of Jacques Duparquet, first governor of the island. The Depaz distillery pays tribute to Victor Depaz. His family worked in the production of rum, essential local actors until in 1902, all died under the awakening of the Pelee Mountain with the exception of Victor then student in Bordeaux and since then orphan. He will return 15 years after the eruption to revive the field of his ashes, rebuilding the Habitation Perinelle of his childhood in the same way. It will not be long before the quality of rums produced by the Depaz distillery radiate around the world, powered by sugar cane from a rich volcanic soil and water of exceptional purity. Anchored in tradition, the distillery is one of the smallest in Martinique whose heart is still powered by an old steam engine.
