Domaine Guillemot Michel - Charleston 2018
Domaine Guillemot-Michel is a small family estate located in "Quintaine", between the villages of Viré and Clessé, in the heart of the Viré-Clessé appellation, one of the three Crus of the Mâconnais. In 1982, after studying viticulture and oenology, Pierrette Michel and her husband Marc Guillemot returned to the estate of Pierrette's parents. In 1985 they bottle their first vintage under the name "Guillemot-Michel". The vines are converted to organic farming upon their return, then to biodynamics from 1991. Since 2012, their daughter Sophie, now helped by her husband Gautier, follow the same path by gradually taking over the management of the estate. Sophie, Gautier, Pierrette and Marc cultivate 6.5 hectares of old Chardonnay vines (55-60 years old) located around the hamlet of Quintaine.
Created in 2016, this cuvée comes from hundred-year-old vines planted by the family's great-grandfather, after the First World War. In his honour, the Guillemot-Michel wanted to vinify these Chardonnay vines in the same way as their ancestor, in old demi-muids. Thus, the cuvée Charleston is vinified and aged for one year in a demi-muids over 10 years old. During the following harvests, the wine is racked and placed in tanks for an extended aging of 6 months before bottling.
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
