ANGOSTURA - 1919 - 40%
The story of Angostura begins in 1824, when Dr. Siegert wanted to perfect his recipe for his aromatic bitters in the town of Angostura in Venezuela. Angostura Bitters are a vital ingredient to make cocktails such as the Manhattan or Old Fashioned. In 1875, the company moved to Trinidad, where it still resides today. It is in the 1940s that Angostura began distilling their own Trinidadian rum, a range of which has featured both white and dark rums over the years.
Angostura 1919 is a rum made from a blend of rums aged at least 8 years with a finish in 1919 barrels. In 1932, a fire broke out in the government customs warehouse and the master rumers of the Fernandes and JB distilleries Fernandes bought the burned barrels and discovered that they had been filled in 1919. These barrels were then used by Angostura and this cuvée therefore benefits from an unusual aromatic potential. Suave and round, this generous and honeyed rum reveals aromas of toast and hazelnuts.
