Domaine Jean Louis DUTRAIVE - Fleurie - Lieu-dit "Champagne" - Magnum 2019
The Domaine de la Grand'Cour is located in the Beaujolais region, and has vineyards in the appellations of Fleurie (9 hectares) and Brouilly (1.6 hectares). The Domaine was bought in 1969 by Jean Dutraive, it is one of the oldest estates in Fleurie. Jean Dutraive was joined by his son Jean-Louis in 1977 and succeeded him definitively in 1989. The vineyard has always been managed in organic farming, and has been certified since 2009. The Dutraive family also has a trading activity; they source their grapes from organic winegrower friends to make wines.
The Gamay grapes, collected manually, are put in vats in whole bunches without destemming or crushing. They are put at low temperature and saturated with carbon dioxide, without adding sulfite. Fermentation takes place naturally without intervention, except in the event of a problem, until pressing. No oenological product is used, the natural yeastsof the so-called indigenous grapes are responsible for characterising the wines of the Domaine. The wine is then placed in the cellar by gravity to begin maturing for a longer or shorter period depending on the vintage.
This Fleurie comes from the "Champagne" terroir located to the south of the Fleurie appellation. 1.5 hectares in size, the plot is made up of very old 70-year-old vines and 40-year-old vines. On shallow sandy soil on weathered granite, the place called "Champagne" faces south-east and rises to an altitude of 260 meters. The grapes were vinified in concrete vats then the wines were aged in oak barrels for 8 months.
