CARONI - Guyana Stock - 1994/2017 - Double Maturation - 23 years - Magnum 1.5 liters - 59%
Established in 1923 in Trinidad & Tobago on the site of the former Caroni sugar estate, Caroni produced rums known for their high alcohol content, which were supplied to the British Navy. Despite protests, in 2001, the distillery was sold by the Trinidadian government to Angostura, and it was closed in 2002. However, in 2004, while visiting Trinidad, Luca Gargano learned about the existence of a warehouse filled with rum barrels in the abandoned distillery. The barrels were purchased, bottled, and sold, and they are now eagerly sought after by collectors, much like Karuizawa.
This extremely rare magnum (less than 10 produced) is the Caroni 1994 Guyana Stock Double Maturation. Distilled in 1994, it aged in Trinidad and Tobago until 2008. Afterwards, the casks were transferred to Diamond distillery in Guyana (British Guiana) of DDL until 2017. This unique magnum version is hand-blown by the Italian master glassblower Massimo Lunardon in a limited number of copies.
