Sweden has very few distilleries, despite its undeniable assets. Yet when a group of three friends began to explore the possibility of creating a Swedish Single Malt whiskey , they saw nothing but opportunity: in Sweden is one of the purest waters in the world, filtered with perfection since the ice age. It is no coincidence that the distillery is located next to a rock with constant access to crystal clear waters. Swedish barley develops a particular sweetness during the long summer days, to the point of being one of the best in the world. This sweetness has become one of the cornerstones of Mackmyra's whisky. Much of the whiskey is stored in new Swedish oak, or in barrels that have held beer or lingonberry wine. Swedish oak grows slowly in the harsh climate, giving the whiskey a harsher flavor than American oak. The whiskey gets a fiery spice balanced by a sweetness similar to caramelized sugar. Today, the group of friends and Angela d'Orazio , the master blender, produce whiskey with the same motivation as at the beginning of 1999. Moreover, in keeping with Nordic tradition, this whiskey is produced without additives and with the least possible impact on the environment.
Stjärnrök Season Edition 2021 is a limited edition from the Mackmyra distillery for fall 2021.
Since winter 2013, two limited editions have been marketed each year. This Seasonal Series features unusual finishes that reflect the current season. Stjärnrök is inspired by enchanting Nordic skies, magic and unknown senses. It is made from a selection of 8 barrels ; 200 liters of Mackmyra artisanal "smoked recipe" ex-Bourbon , 200 liters of Mackmyra artisanal "elegant recipe" ex-Bourbon , 128 liters of Oloroso barrels (new and first fill), 128 liters of "elegant recipe" pre-stocked in American oak , 100 liters of cloudberry wine-saturated Swedish oak cask, 100 liters of smoked ex-Bourbon tail , 30 liters of smoked fresh Oloroso and 30 liters of American oak and ex-Bourbon barrels smoked and extra smoked .
