The Glenturret - 30 years old - 41.6%
Glenturret Distillery is located in Crieff in the Highlands , Scotland . The distillery was officially established in 1763 by Sir Patrick Murray of Ochtertyre, but had since 1717 been under the control of illicit distillers who sought to avoid paying taxes. This ancient history has led to claims that Glenturret is Scotland's oldest distillery, a title disputed by other establishments such as Littlemill or Strathisla. In 1814, the Murray family sold the “Thurot” distillery to Thomas MacInnes, who renamed it “The Hosh Distillery”. Seven years after purchasing the Hosh Distillery in 1825, local distillers and grain merchants John and Hugh Drummond secured the Ochtertyre Agreement (Ochtertyre Agreement), which granted the distillery permission to use both water from Loch Turret and shoreline peat in its production. It was taken over by John McCallum in 1845, until 1875 when Thomas Stewart took over and renamed it Glenturret in its centenary year. The distillery was closed during World War I and then reopened by the Mitchell brothers until 1921, when the Great Depression and Prohibition in America closed it again. Production resumed in 1957 with James Fairlie, who sold it to the Cointreau group in 1981. In 1990, it passed into the hands of Highland Distillers and was taken over in 1999 by the Edrington group. In 2018, it was once again put on the market and acquired by the Lalique group. In September 2020, after more than 250 years of distillation, The Glenturret offers a new range crafted by the highly respected Whiskey Maker, Bob Dalgarno .
