The fascinating story of Darnley’s begins in 1565 when Lord Darnley first met his iconic future wife, Mary Queen of Scots, at Wemyss Castle located in Fife, on the majestic east coast of Scotland. Several centuries later, the passionate new generation of the Wemyss family drew inspiration from this historic and precious moment to name this unique gin, Darnley's Gin. The wild elderflower, which grows naturally around the castle, was also the main source of inspiration for their very first artisanal gin recipe.

Darnley’s Navy Strength Spiced is a special enriched edition that uses the same exceptional botanicals as the original Darnley’s Spiced Gin (juniper, angelica root, coriander seed, cinnamon, cumin, nutmeg, clove, ginger, grains of paradise, and cassia), but with a significantly higher proportion of juniper for increased aromatic power. This exclusive recipe pays tribute to the brilliant naval career of their ancestor Sir Rosslyn Wemyss, who commanded ships across all the seas of the globe and reached the prestigious rank of Admiral of the Fleet. During his campaigns, Royal Navy officers received a daily ration of gin of exceptional quality, which had to pass the gunpowder test, thus guaranteeing a minimum alcohol content of 57% to ensure its robustness and authenticity.
