BOTRAN - Cobre - Spiced Rum - 45%
Botran rums are produced in Guatemala , in the Retalhuleu region located in the south, on volcanic soils. The distillery is one of only two to have an AOC in rum, with Martinique. Obtaining this AOC in 2013 is linked to the influence of the Botran family, which has worked hard for the recognition of this exceptional terroir.
Botran rums are made using the traditional Guatemalan technique of making virgin sugar cane honey by heating the fresh juices to evaporate the water. The fermentations are made by yeasts extracted from pineapple then the rum is distilled in column stills. The rums are then moved to the cellars at an altitude of 2,300 meters in the center of the country where the climate is cooler and therefore allows slower aging. This refining is done according to a method inspired by the ancestral Solera system in ex-American Bourbon casks (200 and 225 liters re-toasted), Oloroso sherry casks (500 and 600 liters) and Port casks (250 liters).
Botran Cobre is a spiced rum including ginger, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon. It comes from the assembly of rums whose age varies from 5 to 20 years, aged in a Solera system. It is aged in American whiskey casks (neutral and medium toasted) and Port casks.
