PENDERYN - Patagonia - Icon of Wales n°11 - Blended Malt with Alazana - 43%
Penderyn Distillery is located at the southern end of the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales . Distilling in Wales was a lost art, but in the late 1990s a group of friends decided to create the first whiskey distillery there in over a century. The location in the historic village of Penderyn was chosen due to the site's supply of fresh natural spring water. Their whiskey was launched on St David's Day 2004 in the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Charles.
Penderyn Patagonia is the distillery's first blend, paying homage to the historic relationship between Wales and Patagonia; In 1865, 153 people boarded the Mimosa, sailing to Patagonia to establish a Welsh colony and preserve their language and culture. Patagonia today has 50,000 Welsh descendants, 5,000 Welsh speakers and organizes the Eisteddfodau (Little Wales beyond Wales) every year. Icons of Wales No.11 is a blend of Penderyn with a whiskey from the Patagonian distillery La Alazana , which produced its first Single Malt in November 2011.
