Domaine des Baumard - Clos Sainte Catherine 2015
The Domaine des Baumard is located in Rochefort-sur-Loire, in Anjou in the Loire Valley. Originally, the property was used as a nursery specializing in the cultivation of grafted vine plants. In 1955, Jean Baumard, after training as an oenologist in Dijon and Bordeaux, undertook to expand the vineyard through acquisitions in several appellations in Anjou, notably Savennières, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume. Florent Baumard arrived on the farm in 1987, he now manages 40 hectares of vines spread over both banks of the Loire. The estate is managed using sustainable agriculture.
Clos Sainte Catherine is made from Chenin Blanc from the Coteaux du Layon appellation. The vines are on average 35 years old and are cultivated on a terroir of schist, sand and quartz. Vinification is carried out in whole clusters, then the wine is aged for 9 months on fine lees in stainless steel vats . It contains 163.6 g/L of residual sugars.
