Château PEDESCLAUX 1998
Château Pédesclaux is located in Pauillac , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified 5th Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification. The estate was founded in 1810 by the wine merchant Pierre Urbain Pédesclaux and has changed hands many times. The estate was bought by Lucien Jugla in 1950 and remained in his extended family until the turn of the century. In 2009, the property was purchased by Franco-Swiss millionaire Jacky Lorenzetti (owner of Château Lafon-Rochet, Lilian-Ladouys and Issan). He launched a program of renovation and acquisition of additional vineyard land, almost doubling the size of the estate from 26 hectares to 49 hectares. The vineyard is managed in certified organic farming , with biodynamic practices.
Château Pédesclaux is mainly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon , supplemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc depending on the vintage. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrels , 60% of which are new. The 1998 vintage in Bordeaux had a cool spring and successful flowering, but the weather warmed up during the summer with a very hot and dry August. September was dry until heavy rain fell at the end of the month.
