GLENMORANGIE - The Nectar - 16 years - Bourbon & Sweet White Wine Casks - 46%
Glenmorangie is an iconic distillery located north of the town of Tain, in Ross-shire, in the heart of the famous Scottish Highlands. Originally a brewery, it was converted into a distillery in 1843. Glenmorangie quickly established itself as a pioneer in exporting its whiskies, especially to the United States, although the distillery had to temporarily close between 1931 and 1936 due to American Prohibition. Today, it belongs to the prestigious Glenmorangie Company, a subsidiary of the luxury group LVMH. Equipped with six washbacks and six traditional copper pot stills, the distillery produces about 6 million liters of whisky per year, making it one of the largest and most influential in Scotland.
Each expression of Glenmorangie is meticulously aged in American white oak casks, sourced from their own private forest located in the Ozarks of Missouri. These barrels are previously used by renowned distilleries such as Jack Daniel's and Heaven Hill for aging Bourbon, which imparts rich and unique aromas to Glenmorangie whiskies. The house has also been a pioneer in the art of innovative wood finishes, offering its whisky a second maturation in different casks to reveal complex and refined aromatic profiles.
The Nectar is an exceptional single malt aged 16 years, benefiting from aging in carefully selected sweet white wine casks: Sauternes and Monbazillac from France, Moscatel from Spain, and Tokaj from Hungary. This unique process brings the whisky a delicate sweetness, fruity notes, and a velvety richness that appeal to the most discerning enthusiasts.
