GLENMORANGIE - The Nectar - 16 years old - Bourbon & Sweet White Wine Casks - 46%
Glenmorangie is located north of the town of Tain in Ross-shire , in the Highlands of Scotland . The establishment was a brewery before being redeveloped as a distillery in 1843. Glenmorangie was an early leader in the exporting its whisky, particularly to the United States, and the distillery was forced to close between 1931 and 1936 due to the effects of Prohibition. Today, the distillery is owned by the Glenmorangie Company , a subsidiary of LVMH . Its six wash back and its six alcohol stills produce around 6 million litres per year, which also makes it one of the largest distilleries.
Each expression is matured in white oak casks from Glenmorangie's own forest in the Ozarks of Missouri in the United States. The casks are then leased to Jack Daniel's and Heaven Hill to store their Bourbon before being shipped to Scotland. Glenmorangie was one of the first distilleries to experiment with different wood finishes for its whisky, where the whisky receives a second maturation period in a different type of barrel.
The Nectar is a 16-year- old single malt aged in sweet white wine casks : Sauternes and Monzabillac from France, Moscatel from Spain and Tokaj from Hungary.
