The Fiefs of Lagrange 2019
Château Lagrange is located in Saint-Julien , in the Bordeaux region. It was classified as a Third Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification. In 1790, Jean-Valère Cabarrus, a shipowner and influential merchant, invested in the property and built its commercial distribution. He had Visconti build the Tour Toscane in 1820, which became the emblem of Château Lagrange. The Japanese group Suntory , under the leadership of its president Keizo Saji, acquired the estate in 1983. Marcel Ducasse was then recruited alongside Kenji Suzuta to lead this profound restructuring of the vineyard and begin the renovation of the estate. Today, a new tandem, Matthieu Bordes and Keiichi Shiina , is pursuing a second phase of investments. Of the total surface area of the property of 157 hectares, 118 hectares are planted with vines.
Les Fiefs de Lagrange is the château's second wine . The 2019 vintage is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (53%), Merlot (44%) and Petit Verdot (3%) . The grape clusters are selected according to the grape varieties, the age of the vines, the maturity of the plots and the origins of the terroirs. The vinification is carried out in stainless steel vats, with a vatting period of 18 to 25 days. The wine is blended and then aged for 13 months in Bordeaux oak barrels , with 20% new wood .
